Sebel Pier One

Sebel Pier One

Coveted harbour views guaranteed

In a metropolis of breathtaking vistas, lapped by water all around, how could you not stay at a waterfront hotel with a spectacular view? The Sebel Pier One is not only conveniently located behind the historical Rocks area, it also offers views across Sydney Harbour of Luna Park, the iconic Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Since a recent refurbishment of the building, which originally served as a cruise terminal, you can even enjoy these views directly from one of the new Harbour View Balcony Suites, thus beginning your sightseeing the moment you check in. Just don't get tempted into spending your entire holiday gazing out the hotel window – after all, there's so much more to see!

This tip is brought to you in association with Virgin Atlantic.

Establishment Hotel

Establishment Hotel

A boutique brimming with enviable attributes

Visiting rockstars love the tucked-away charm of this boutique hotel – all marble, sleek neutrals and beds on raised platforms. Perhaps the real attraction, however, is the extensive entertainment complex.
The gargantuan marble bar at The Establishment downstairs or the quieter atmosphere of Tank are polarised experiences, and the authentic Japanese dining at Sushi-e is sublime. With two penthouse suites stocked with Bvlgari products, it's easy to forget that the city's main attractions await close by.

A psychedelic party pad

If Dr. Evil and Austin Powers co-hosted a party, this is where they'd do it. Merivale have created an entirely new entertainment complex just down the street from the Establishment, an outrageous penthouse that is as much party pad as hotel suite.

A circular, 70s-style lounge, an oversized marble balcony and a bubbling Jacuzzi under the stars – if you don’t know anyone in Sydney, you soon will. Due to its obvious suitability as a cocktail party venue, party hire is fine.

Be lulled into slumber by Coogee’s waves

For visitors who prefer to fall asleep to ocean sounds, Dive is a twee-sized getaway with glossy touches like Panton chairs and Ocean View Rooms in one of the loveliest neighbourhoods: Coogee.

Coogee Beach is quieter than Bondi, with two heritage swimming baths and rock pools carved out of stone. The high street strip is crammed with Asian and Australian eateries, and the local authenticity allows travellers to slip into the Sydneysider rhythm. The hotel also has a three-bedroom annex perfect for families.

BLUE Sydney

BLUE Sydney

Reside adjacent to the resplendent Royal Botanic Gardens

This contemporary reinterpretation was originally the W Hotel, and a working wharf long before that. Soaring ceilings and preserved industrial equipment create an astonishing visual impact in the lobby, serviced by famous Woolloomooloo Wharf restaurant on the water just outside, near Russell Crowe's former penthouse.

Be sure to book rooms with views over the breathtaking Royal Botanic Gardens next door, and linger in Blue’s Water Bar, where the purples and indigos of the industrial architecture are an invitation for just one more cocktail.
