A New Must for the Mediterranean

OneOcean Club at Marina Port Vell cuts an impressive figure, transforming the beachside of Barcelona's Barceloneta district into an unmissable, modern marina

A New Must for the Mediterranean
OneOcean Club's Marina Port Vell, Barcelona

One-time commercial port and unimpressive legacy of the 1992 Olympic Games, the beachside moorings of Barcelona's old Barceloneta district never quite endeared itself to visitors of the city, but this is likely to change with the official opening of the OneOcean’s Marina Port Vell.

Following four years of transformations and more than USD 100 million of investment, this former commercial marina could now, arguably, be considered the best yachting hub in the Mediterranean.

Bringing some pep and verve to this corner of the city, the stylish presence of Marina Port Vell has added a major attraction not only for the wave-hopping yachting crowd here, but also travellers far and wide and the city's pleasure-seeking residents.

Around the corner from the W Hotel and the Porto Olimpico, architects Sergi Carulla and Oscar Blasco of SCOB architecture and landscape studio, together with Catalonian company Escofet, have designed and completed the two new spaces for the marina.

The Gallery hosts the main reception, a state-of-the-art building with a striking white hull that protects year round from the climate. Here, marina guests will also find a full concierge and services which cater to everything one could need onboard from shore. From VIP travel (private jets, limousines) to boat décor and provisioning, Marina Port Vell is positioned as a definitive stop off. Even technical advice is a-go, with the adjacent shipyard MB92.

Furthermore The Gallery also facilitates a business centre for private meetings, a luxury spa with treatment rooms, daybeds for relaxation (in the OneOcean Wellness facility), and a dedicated crew lounge.

The second of SCOB's new buildings is the OneOceanClub Cocktail Bar. Young bartender Daniel Sempere sets the beat with the best cocktails in town, ideal after enjoying a four course meal from chef Llorenc Valls – formerly of the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona, Georges Blanc and Arzak – at the OneOcean Club Restaurant. His secret: A fresh and Asian-inspired take on classic Catalan cuisine– although the view over the ocean certainly enhances things further.
