Top Five: Wine Apps

Hello Vino

It seems a new app has been launched every minute since the dawn of the smartphone, cluttering the landscape and confusing the scenery. So to make the decision easy, here are five oeno-apps that will cut through the noise and help you enjoy your next glass to the fullest.

Hello Vino

For those who spend countless hours in retail shops staring at shelves wondering what wine will pair perfectly with dinner, Hello Vino is there to help. The free app for iPhone and Android platforms helps consumers narrow down selections based on country, style, taste, food and occasion. It will certainly make the wine aisle seem less daunting.

Local Wine Events

Local Wine Events

Instead of staying in and sampling wine, find other wine lovers to share it with. The app from LocalWineEvents.com, recently named one of the top eight apps by Wine Enthusiast, gives users all over the world the ability to find wine tasting events in specific city areas. Perfect for people on the go looking for vino events in an unfamiliar area, the interactive, location-based map provides options for iPhone and Droid customers within short distances of their current locations.

Cor.kz

Cor.kz

The most detail-oriented on the list, this app (available only for iPhone) gives users access to information about millions of bottles of wine. Entering in a name or barcode will deliver ratings, tasting notes, suggested retail prices, and a plethora of helpful information to find out everything you’ve ever cared to know about a particular bottle. Plus, with Cellar Tracker and Twitter integrations, the app encourages users to share information with other wine enthusiasts.

Riedel

Riedel

So now that you have the perfect bottle, what about the perfect glass? The iconic Austrian glass maker Riedel recently launched an app that will assist you in that endeavor. For those oenophiles who have not had the pleasure of drinking out of the critically acclaimed stemware, it is amazing what a difference a glass makes. Available for the iPhone, the app selects stemware based on the varietal chosen, giving you the perfect glass for the perfect bottle.

The Wine Coach

The Wine Coach

For those who want a bit of entertainment to go along with pertinent wine information, Laurie Forster is happy to oblige. The former software sales exec took her two passions in life, connecting with people and enjoying wine, and turned it into a career of “demystifying wine, one glass at a time.” The author, radio show host and comic brings a laid-back, down-to-earth approach to wine advice in order to alleviate anxiety for consumers. Available for the iPhone and Android, the app contains podcasts from 'The Sipping Point' radio show, wine and cooking videos, a grape guide to wine, and a mobile 'wine rack' to keep track of favorites.
