Jaeger-LeCoultre Mad About Reverso Limited Edition Watch

Mad About 'Mad Men'

For no other reason than to say 'thank you', high-end Swiss watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre will release a limited edition version of their famous Reverso watch in honour of the AMC network television series Mad Men. What is Jaeger-LeCoultre saying thank you for? Well, since its debut in 2007, the 1960s-era themed show has been re-popularising all sorts of retro items into popular culture. This includes everything from furniture to fashion, as well as watches.

The 'Mad Men effect' has not been limited to getting people excited about items from the 1960s alone. It helped the fashion conscious rediscover items from many points of the 20th century.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch concept is about 80 years old, but has a timeless design that is considered by many to perfectly fit the Mad Men motif. We regard this limited edition watch as a very high-end Mad Men show tribute item, as Jaeger-LeCoultre designed not only the watch but the packaging and presentation to look as though it has been plucked from the Mad Men universe.

Jaeger-LeCoultre starts with their newer Grande Reverso Ultra-Thin watch in a steel case. The piece is just 7.2mm thick, 27.5mm wide and 46mm tall. The slim case flips over to reveal an engraving of the logo of the advertising agency Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (SCDP) from the show. Inside of the watch is a Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture calibre 822 manually wound mechanical movement.

The watch dial is a modern analog of an original Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch from the 1930s. Attached to the case is a black alligator strap. An attractive watch on its own, this Mad Men version comes with a few interesting collectibles. The commemorative presentation unit is a custom watch box in finished walnut wood and featuring the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce logo.

Inside the box is a letter on SCDP letterhead from the firm’s founder Roger Sterling. The letter is meant to look like a prop from the show and discusses the specific Reverso watch as though it were being presented to the owner from him. The box also contains a copy of Roger Sterling’s book from the show, titled Sterling’s Gold. The book is personally signed by Mad Men executive producer Matthew Weiner. True Mad Men fans will jump on these watches offered as a limited edition of just 25 pieces.
